Palm Springs

Ok, I've gotten WAY behind on the blog, but Glenn has told some of what we've been up to lately on the home page.

On March 11, we moved from Desert Hot Springs to Palm Springs Thousand Trails Campground. It's actually closer to Indio. The campground is set in a Date Palm grove, so it has a very tropical feel with the towering palms. When we arrived, the orange trees were in bloom. It smelled wonderful!!

The weather here has been great! We had a couple of really windy days when we had to bring the awning in and everything got gritty in the motorhome. Easter Sunday the high was around 90! We gave in and have run the air conditioner a couple of days.

The couple (Kim and Shelly Pollock) that lead our New Mexico caravan spend their winters in Indio. We met up with them one afternoon and were invited to join their 4-wheeling group for a trip to Anza Borrego State Park. We had a blast! The wildflowers were in bloom, so that was an added bonus. Even Good Morning America was there filming the bloom.

Our next adventure was to Joshua Tree National Park. We got to experience the best wildflower blooms in 4 years. The Joshua Trees were in bloom, also. This is a really interesting park. It has desert areas, mountains and all these great piles of boulders. It is a very popular place for rock climbing. We parked our chairs, ate lunch and watched some of these crazy people climb the rocks. It was like watching Spiderman! Definitely a sport for the young and fit!

On Easter Sunday, we returned to the park for a bird watching walk at 8 a.m. It was to get to 92 that day and it was already 67 when we left the campground, so we dressed accordingly. Forgot that the park is a higher elevation and a little breezy! Got a little chilly!! It was an interesting walk, saw about 15 different birds, 2 were new one's for me, and also got to see some different wildflowers than on previous days. After the walk was over, we drove up to Key View. It is almost a mile high there and it was only 60 degrees!! Brrrrr! But the view was fantastic! We had a great view of two mountains and the valley below. We even saw the San Andreas fault! Actually where we are camped is in the fault area. Let's hope we get through our stay without any major earthquakes!

We will be here until April 1. The weather will be in the low 80's, just perfect! We have a few other places we would like to visit while we are here. Then we will point the motorhome north. Our first stop will be in the Santa Barbara area which is on the coast. It will be much cooler there, but I guess we had better get used to it. We will be lucky to see any 80's again until we head east the end of June!

Glenn is finally getting to the end of his report from the FMCA rally! It will be a relief to have that off his plate and we have our taxes just about ready to send to the accountant, so that will free up time and our minds.

Hope everyone had a great Easter! Is spring ever going to get to Ohio? I'm going to miss seeing the spring flowers in my garden and getting out to work in the dirt. Right now, I have to be satisfied tending to the 3 pots of flowers we have with us. I'm sure Trevor will have some yard chores for me when we get to his house. That should help the itch in my green thumb!
