Never believe the weatherman!

Thursday morning, the weather report called for cooler weather, some rain (less than 1/4") and it was to clear out of San Diego by 10am. So we head out to the Wild Animal Park. It is in Escondido, about 35 miles north of San Diego. It was drizzling when we arrived, but we continued on because it was going to clear up soon. Decided to take the Tour of Africa ride first to see the "big picture" of the park. On our way, we spotted some of the 7 lion cubs playing on a log. We walk through the rain to the entrance of the tour, but that's OK, it's going to clear up anytime now.
The tour was great! It is laid out to resemble different areas of Africa. We saw rhinos, giraffes, ostriches, and even an eland that had just been born a few hours before we arrived. All kinds of animals roaming in their areas.
It began to rain harder as we left the tour, so we walked over to Lion Camp. There is a covered area where you can watch the lions through a glass enclosure. Right next to the glass is a ledge the lions like to sleep on. So we saw all of the lions up close. After all, cats don't like to get wet, ya know! There was the male, 2 females and a pile of 7 cubs all huddled together to stay warm and dry! We've never been so close to lions before, how cool!!
It's still raining!! And harder, yet! And it's not showing any signs of letting up, so we gave in and headed to the car. No, we didn't have raincoats or umbrellas, it was supposed to clear up!
The closer we got to the campground, the less rain we saw. But once we got into the motorhome, it really started to rain and continued until around 8 or 9pm. Just east of us, in the mountains, it snowed enough to close the interstate and close some schools. So much for southern California weather!

Friday we returned to the San Diego Zoo to see the parts we missed the first day. We were also able to take a botanical tour of the grounds. We didn't realize that the zoo grew alot of the food for the animals. They grow and harvest bamboo for the pandas and eucalytus for the koalas. Plus other tree trimmings for various animals.

This morning, we got brave and crossed the border to Mexico. We parked on the U.S. side and walked across. Our main purpose was to pick up some prescriptions for Glenn that are no longer covered by his health plan. What a savings! We have talked to many campers that buy their 'scrips in Mexico and even save money on dental work.

This evening we are having dinner with the other guy on the safety team and his wife. We will drive over close to the Tijuana Estuary. It will be nice for Glenn to meet him before they begin working together.

Only 2 more day here and then it's off to Pomona for the FMCA rally.
