Thursday evening we attended a potluck dinner with the water volleyball group. Each month, on the 3rd Thursday they have this dinner. Previous years we were either too late or too early, but we were able to make it this year. It was a little hard to recognize some of the players, we are used to seeing them in swimsuits and ballcaps or visors, not street clothes! Lots of good food and conversation.
Friday we finished packing up the campsite and then went to visit Bev and Neal Brown in Polk City. We met them last year at the Habitat for Humanity build. They are from the Buffalo, NY area, but have moved to Florida. They just built a new home in a RV port community. Beautiful! Bev and Neal fixed us a great steak dinner and we spent the evening catching up on each others travels.
Saturday morning we pulled out around 9:15am and headed up I-75 to I-10 west. Who knew it would take so long to get out of Florida? Most of the day it was raining, sometimes it got pretty heavy. Lot's of wind, too. We spent the night in a rest area about 30 miles from the FL/AL line. Usually the rest areas are packed with trucks, but this one was practically empty all night. Made Glenn a little nervous. What did everyone else know that we didn't? But all was nice and quiet and we got a good night's sleep. Got up early this morning, Glenn had his coffee and we left around 6am. I know it's much colder at home, but upper 20's here is too cold!
We hope to get into the Houston area by the end of today's driving. Wonder if we will see any of Katrina's damage along the way?
